VITUS Escarpe 1 2012 Mountain Bike Review

VITUS Escarpe 1 2012

New for 2012 we introduce the Vitus Escarpe. From your local trails or XC loop to the rock strewn mountain sides of the Alps, the Escarpe 1 has the credentials to tackle whatever you lay in its path!
For the top of the range Escarpe 1 we took everything that makes its little brother the Escarpe 2 a great trail bike – 140mm front and rear travel, hydroformed alloy frame with tapered head tube, bolt-thru hubs and a predatory instinct – and then we added lighter, stronger and better components for a lighter, stronger and even better bike.

Ready to tackle any alpine terrain, when you need to reach for one bike to do it all the Vitus Escarpe 1 will exceed your wildest expectations!  With big hit capabilities for full on Alpine descents and lightweight pedal friendly suspension platform to get you back to the top of the trail; the Vitus Escarpe 1; Megavalanche ready!

Our lightweight hydroformed multi-butted, heat treated 6061 aluminium frame features 140mm of rear wheel travel via a Four-Bar V-Link activated suspension platform which eliminates pedal-bob yet remains fully active at all times. Suspension travel is controlled by a RockShox RT air shock which offers infinite adjustability and silky smooth performance. All pivots run on sealed cartridge bearings providing supple performance with low maintenance. A replaceable derailleur hanger comes as standard.

A RockShox Revelation RL fork offers 140mm of buttery smooth, infinitely adjustable travel. A tapered steerer and 15mm Maxle Lite thru-axle means precise, positive tracking through corners and rockgardens or any other obstacle the trail throws at you!

The SRAM groupset combines X9 shifters and derailleurs with a SRAM S1400 2×10 chainset which combines lightweight with a full complement of gears to meet the demands of any AM challenge. Alpine descents require powerful brakes and the Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes will not disappoint; with a 180mm rotor up front and a 160mm rotor at the rear for powerful fade free braking performance.

An upgraded Fulcrum Red Power XL wheelset features a new milled rim to shave off over 200 grams in rotational weight to provide maximum acceleration in a tough but lightweight package with the ability to handle the roughest descents. With a 20mm thru-axle front hub and 12mm thru-axle rear you can be sure that stiffness and rigidity are uncompromised. High volume Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres combine predictable handling with low rolling resistance for complete confidence in all conditions. To complete the package we’ve added Truvativ Stylo T30 finishing kit, lock-on grips and a lightweight but comfortable X-Lite saddle.

VITUS Chrono 2012 Time Trial Bike Review

VITUS Chrono TT 2012

Ready to take on new challenges; time to expand your horizons; enter the world of triathlon & time trial racing with the new Vitus Chrono!

All new for 2012; we introduce the Vitus Chrono TT bike. A full high-modulus Uni-Directional carbon fibre frame and forks with unlimited potential for the serious athlete, the Vitus Chrono offers true wind cheating attributes that will leave the others in its wake! From the start line of club TT races to T1 in your local triathlon event; the Vitus Chrono is ready for serious competition.

Lightweight High Modulus UD Carbon Frame

Custom-moulded super high-modulus Uni-Directional monocoque carbon fibre frame with wind cheating attributes. Wind tunnel testing has led us to develop our aero tube set and rear wheel cut out for minimal drag and increased aerodynamic performance. Internal cable routing further reduces drag and adds to the aesthetics of the frame. This super stiff frame maximizes rider input by transferring every watt of power to the back wheel without fear of energy sapping flex; the Chrono will cut through the air like a hot knife through butter!

Shimano 105 5700 Groupset

A Shimano 105 5700 groupset takes care of shifting and transmission duties with reliable, precise shifting every time. The 105 creates the driving force at the heart of the transmission and ensures every ounce of energy is transmitted through the oversized bottom bracket area of the frame to the rear wheel.
Braking is highly effective thanks to the dual pivot callipers providing a perfect blend of stopping power and modulation which results in better handling and increased confidence.

Finishing Kit

Vision Team alloy base bars are paired up with Vision Vector clip-on extensions offering a high degree of adjustability; allowing you to tailor your cockpit so you find the most efficient setting when in the aero position.
The wheelset on any bike can transform how the bike handles and performs. The Alex560 wheelset with 50mm deep section rims and aero bladed spokes enhance the aero properties and further reduce aero drag, resulting in reduced rider fatigue over long distances. To complete the wheelset we have added Continental Ultra Race tyres which have a proven track record for performance and reliability in all conditions.

And all this for unbeliable £1899 – WOW!! You won’t find this spec TT bike much cheaper.

VITUS Dark Plasma 2011 Road Bike Review

VITUS Dark Plasma 2011

To be frank I didn’t think much of Vitus Bikes, another strugling brand taken over by the giant CRC. My view has taken 180 spin when I came across the Dark Plasma 2011 model. Don’t know how to stress this enough but all listed below is going to cost you only £1149!

So check out the spec! Custom moulded high-modulus carbon frame with 12k weave finish; matching carbon fork; 18-speed Shimano Tiagra transmission including compact double chainset; lightweight Pro-Lite wheelset with Schwalbe race tyres and finishing kit from Vitus and Controltech. Complete weight (minus pedals in 56 cm frame size): just under 19 lbs (8.56kg) – wow! That’s a lot of bike for your money.

So whatever you ride, you will notice the difference – club races, long-distance group spins, Audax or sportive events. It’s the perfect upgrade for experienced riders who want the performance benefits of high-modulus carbon, without the hefty price tag.

The Dark Plasma. Carbon fibre frame. Quality components. Top performance. Affordable price.
